Samm, it would not hurt you to try out the live DVDs, CDs of these distros. They do not make any changes to your system and work as fully functional operating systems when you boot from them.

Airtel digital TV to offer HD-like quality to viewers

Posted: 22 May 2011 04:47 AM PDT

Even if they are formatting standard channels in to 16:9 format without picture getting stretched on our HDTVs, I will consider that as an achievement for Airtel. Enough of this upscaling bullshit. You cannot provide what you don't have.

BSNL 3G vs BSNL 4G

Which is awesome, except this doesn't apply to anyone in BSNL's coverage area.

Doubts about the authenticity of Hayai Broadband

But if you think people are going to be buying our FTTH service simply for browsing, then you're missing the point. If people are planning to merely browse or want a cheaper service, they're better off with Hayai lite - or another service.

The tariff sheets have been on our website for months. As well as the Hayai Lite threads.

Do incentivise or educate people to move to DC++ to lower your cost ...but do not assume that every heavy user who takes Hayai ...will automatically move to DC++

1. Like I said, we'll see. Things continually change in the market.
2. Torrents are also possible within the Hayai Zone - we even have a private torrent tracker.
3. Fivenet doesn't really promote no Fair Usage Policy... at least not in the documentation I've seen. But with us, there is an Fair Usage Policy - users are encouraged to take plans suited to their downloading needs, and to facilitate this, we have plans for users to upgrade to at reasonable prices, unlike the other providers. As for Fivenet's 10mbit/s plans, they're "up to" - granted, you might get 5mbit/s most of the time, but that could change at random and for no apparent reason, as opposed to their "normal" unlimited plans where they guarantee 70% of the prescribed speed (presumably up to the ISP node, it doesn't really specify). Anyway, the point is, we'll know better what our final pricing is closer to launch date, so we'll see what the prices are like at that time.

I'd actually rather make the higher speed tiers more attractive than the lower speed tiers. This creates a win-win solution for both us and the customers. That's why the 100mbit/s plan is (currently) only 3x more than the 5mbit/s plan, whilst giving 20x the speed, and it's entirely possible that this ratio will improve significantly in the near future.

Not really. We can't take a price and launch with it then find out that it's not enough, then we face the problem of raising our prices (not a good option), adding a strict Fair Usage Policy (also not a good option) or not paying our bills (the worst option).

If price is the only differentiator, then yes, we look expensive. However, we do not have any sub-1mbit/s users to support, so our service should automatically be better than the other options.

But, at this stage I don't think we are going to have any Rs1000 flat-rate plans, but again, we'll see what the situation is like in September or October.

Do you guys resent my presence here..

There is something called "conflict of interests", so i won't be participating in this debate after this comment, my well-wishers will have to hold the fort on their own, to my detractors i say, yes i am all of those things, narcissistic, paranoid and a total whacko, but so is everyone else to some degree, i am the only one not in denial though. What does that tell you about yourselves and the extent of truthfulness in our communication? What do these debates amount to if they do reach out to the real us? Are we politicians out to score points in a power game or intellectual debate? We are real people, please don't lose sight of that. The poll was a teaser, something to bring out your real feelings about each other through how you felt about me, believe me, i am the last person to take myself seriously.
